Local Hazardous Materials Exercise June 6th

    COLUMBUS – The Chemical Emergency Preparedness Advisory Council (CEPAC) of Franklin County in conjunction with Franklin County Emergency Management & Homeland Security (FCEM&HS) and Marathon Petroleum will hold a Full Scale Exercise (FSE) on Thursday, June 6, 2019.  The exercise is designed to test information sharing and evaluate current response plans and capabilities through a simulated exercise scenario.  The exercise will feature fire response to hazardous materials incident involving a fuel storage tank fire.  

    WHO: Franklin Township Police and Fire, Columbus Fire, Marathon Petroleum, Columbus Public Health and FCEM&HS

    WHAT: Full Scale Exercise to evaluate information sharing and current response plans & capabilities in response to hazardous materials incident.

    The event is open to the media. Officials are welcome to attend and observe.

    WHEN: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., Thursday, June 6, 2019

    WHERE:  Marathon Petroleum, 4125 Fisher Road, Columbus, Ohio (Visitors are asked to park on Phillipi Road) 

    The exercise is designed to validate the emergency operations plans (EOPs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for private sector businesses, local jurisdictions and emergency partners in Franklin County.  Capabilities being evaluated during the exercise include Incident Assessment and Command, Resource Management, Communication, Response Personnel Safety, Population Protective Actions, Emergency Public Information and Warning, and Traffic Access and Control.
