FRANKLIN COUNTY RADIO AMATEUR CIVIL EMERGENCY SERVICE (RACES)
WHAT IS THE FC RACES PROGRAM?
The FC RACES program provides an amateur radio emergency communications capability during periods of national security threats and national security emergencies and provides the capability to the agency Director during major emergencies and disasters. RACES is a strategic communication’s capability by connecting our agency with other county emergency management agencies, the
state and the federal government.
WHO CAN BE A FC RACES VOLUNTEER?
An amateur radio license and an amateur radio organization sponsor is required to join RACES. Licensed amateur radio operators trained in net control operations is preferred.
WHAT ARE THE TRAINING REQUIREMENTS?
There are no formal training requirements. Licensed amateur radio operators are required with preference to net control operations trained operators. Relevant training topics may be disclosed to FC RACES members as they are made available.
WHAT IS THE FC RACES MEMBERSHIP PROCESS?
- Complete the online FC RACES Orientation;
- Create a profile within the Ohio Responds Database at www.ohioresponds.odh.ohio.gov;
- Disclose your amateur radio license within your profile
- Affirm the Oath online;
- Be available for drills and exercises.
Profiles in researching status within Ohio Responds will remain in that status until all requirements are met.
