National Incident Management System (NIMS) Resource Typing

As a standard, Franklin County Emergency Management and Homeland Security will use NIMS Resource Typing. Resource and logistics management is an ongoing cycle that requires a uniform or accepted system for identifying, refining, and validating available resources prior to an emergency. Resource typing is the categorization and description of response resources that are commonly exchanged in disasters through mutual aid agreements.

The list below includes the categories used in the national resource typing protocol:

  • Transportation
  • Communications
  • Public works and engineering
  • Firefighting
  • Information and planning
  • Law enforcement and security
  • Mass care
  • Resource management
  • Health and medical
  • Search and rescue
  • Hazardous materials response
  • Food and water
  • Energy
  • Public information
  • Animals and agricultural issues
  • Volunteers and donations
